About

Intermobil is a project of the of the University of Applied Sciences of Northwestern Switzerland. It focuses on the internship abroad of Primary and Secondary teacher students. The thematic focus of Intermobil is on the acquisition of intercultural competence for dealing with cultural diversity in educational contexts. Due to worldwide migration processes, school classes in Switzerland are characterized by cultural diversity. To deal successfully with diversity teachers need, apart from special didactic and methodological know-how in the field of language teaching and learning, a positive attitude towards diversity and intercultural competence. The PH FHNW offers its students the opportunity to do a four-week internship abroad in one of the countries of origin of immigrant pupils. Getting to know a new school system, diving into a new culture and getting to know and understand local people broadens one's personal horizon, provides a broader perspective on migration processes, and creates a valuable basis for dealing with cultural diversity in the Swiss school context.

The overriding goal of the project Intermobil is the establishment of a Global Network of Schools of Education. The first conference with the Global Network of Partners took place in Switzerland in June, 2024. Permanent partnerships take place particularly in countries from which many immigrant families in Switzerland come or in other immigration countries comparable to Switzerland. Currently 14 countries are participating: Morocco, Algeria, The Gambia, Senegal, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Uganda, France (La Réunion), USA, Brazil, Colombia, Belgium, Switzerland, and Kenya.
